President Zelensky Calls for Intensified International Pressure on Russia Due to Ignoring Peace Proposals
President Volodymyr Zelensky, in his recent address, highlighted the unprecedented situation that has been ongoing for over two months — more than 50 days during which Russian forces completely ignore ceasefire proposals made by the United States and Ukraine. According to the Ukrainian leader, the lack of response from Moscow demands thoughtful and decisive action to break this deadlock and initiate genuine dialogue that will bring the long-awaited peace. In his latest speech, Zelensky emphasized that Moscow openly disregards not only diplomatic proposals but also Ukrainian initiatives related to possible de-escalation and the establishment of a sustained ceasefire. “For over two months, Russia has refused to show any readiness for negotiations or compromises. They only respond with new missile strikes, assaults, and attacks, causing destruction and human casualties across Ukraine,” the president noted. Zelensky stated that to achieve any diplomatic progress, it is essential to repeatedly increase pressure on the aggressor country. In his view, sanctions should become the primary tool to compel Russia to change its behavior and return to negotiations. “The tougher the international pressure, the sooner the opportunity for peace and stabilization will arise. At the same time, our efforts to strengthen defenses and enhance air defense systems are critically important, as they will save lives and help reduce casualties during these relentless attacks,” he added. During his speech, Zelensky also delivered urgent news from southern and eastern Ukraine. In Odesa, search and rescue operations are ongoing after a nighttime attack involving a Russian drone, which damaged several buildings with debris. Rescue efforts are currently underway, with some people trapped under the rubble, casualties reported, and several deaths confirmed. Targets of Russian strikes include infrastructure facilities, residential areas, and strategic objects, further confirming Moscow's aggressive tactics. Overall, on the night of today, Ukraine was subjected to over 170 enemy drones, the majority of which are the so-called “Shahidi,” Zelensky reported. Specifically, Russian forces attempt to paralyze key cities and regions by attacking from the air and on the ground. In Odessa, Kyiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kirovohrad, and Cherkasy regions, continuous rescue operations and firefighting efforts are ongoing due to the nighttime strikes. The president stressed that the struggle continues, and Ukraine is committed to liberation and the restoration of justice. “On our side are the unity of our people, support from the international community, and faith in the resilience and victory of Ukrainians. We highly value all partners’ assistance and call for further strengthening sanctions and support for Ukraine’s defense,” he concluded. The overall situation remains tense, but the Ukrainian leader is confident that the efforts of citizens and the international community will help overcome this period and restore stability and security in Ukraine. At the same time, it is emphasized that only united and decisive actions can accelerate the path to peace and end the aggression.
