Former U.S. President Donald Trump made a high-profile statement expressing the belief that signing a new agreement with Ukraine on the development of subsoil resources could bring the United States significantly greater financial benefits than all the costs associated with supporting the Ukrainian state. According to the politician, earning more than 350 billion dollars is entirely feasible, and this amount sharply exceeds the money the U.S. has allegedly spent on aid to Ukraine over recent years. Information about such statements appeared during a phone-in broadcast on the NewsNation channel, citing Trump’s words published in "European Pravda." According to the official position of the former leader, the U.S. supposedly spent around 350 billion dollars supporting Ukraine. However, in reality, this figure is often considered an exaggeration, as independent experts and sources insist that actual costs are much lower. Trump was quite critical of U.S. cooperation with European countries regarding aid to Kyiv. He emphasized that Europeans, compared to Washington, have spent approximately 100 billion dollars, and their money is safe since many of it is deposited in Russian banks. At the same time, according to Trump, the Biden administration has manually transferred cash and military equipment to Ukraine totaling 350 billion — but in return, the United States, as he claims, “got nothing.” The former head of the White House emphasized that he feels deceived and hinted at the presence of rich resources in the wild hostile environment, including rare earth metals, which are of strategic importance. "And now we have signed a new agreement, under which we can get much more than 350 billion dollars," Trump is quoted as saying. In addition, he expressed intention to accelerate efforts to swiftly resolve the conflict and called for a strong peace agreement that would reduce the number of casualties among military personnel on both sides and prevent civilian passions. It is reported that at the end of April, the signing of a Ukrainian-American agreement regarding subsoil resources was officially announced. The parameters of the document correspond to most of the main provisions voiced earlier by Ukrainian government official Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal. "European Pravda" additionally reported that the signing of this agreement creates prerequisites for the formation of an American-Ukrainian recovery investment fund. At the same time, experts point out that the document still leaves a number of unspecified important provisions that will define the further development of cooperation between the two countries. The main goal of the agreement is to consolidate political arrangements and provide formal frameworks for future economic projects. It is expected that the implementation of this agreement could become an important step for Ukraine in attracting foreign investment and activating its own resource and energy sector development. Thus, the subsoil resources agreement signed at the end of April marked a new important stage in international cooperation between Ukraine and the USA. It opens up potential for significant economic benefits, but its real scope and consequences still require detailed review and consensus among experts and political forces. Meanwhile, Trump emphasizes the strategic importance of resource-intensive approaches and is convinced that these steps can change the balance in global politics and economics.
