Ukrainian Member of Parliament from the “Servant of the People” faction, Fedir Venislavskyi, has initiated the creation of a dedicated unit within the Armed Forces of Ukraine responsible for the space defense sector

He registered the relevant bill in the Verkhovna Rada, emphasizing the necessity of establishing a modern and efficient space sector within the national security system. According to the lawmaker, passing this legislation will open new opportunities for Ukraine in the field of space defense and will enhance the country's ability to counter modern threats, including Russian aggression. The explanatory note accompanying the document, which Venislavskyi voiced to the media, highlights that the creation of the Space Forces can strengthen Ukraine’s organizational-legal framework, institutional-administrative status, and military-technical potential in outer space. Considering current security challenges, the author of the bill is convinced that Ukraine’s scientific and industrial capabilities in this area allow for the implementation of such a project without unnecessary delays. He emphasizes that Ukraine is the first country in the world to have been targeted by a terrorist attack from space-based positions by an aggressor nation—Russia. According to the deputy, Russia used an exo-atmospheric medium-range missile system with an orbital stage and splittable warheads with high-precision guidance, which is notably called “Oresnik.” This cruise weapon was directed precisely through international space and caused damage to Ukrainian territory. His vision is that the establishment of the Space Forces will not only provide effective protection for the country but also enable the development of a constellation of reconnaissance satellites. This, in his view, will substantially strengthen the capabilities of Ukrainian intelligence and communications systems. It is noted that similar structures are already successfully functioning within the armed forces of the USA, UK, France, China, India, Iran, and Russia, confirming the relevance and перспективность of this initiative. Given the current global security situation, creating an independent space unit is considered a strategic necessity for Ukraine—one that can ensure its defensive potential and respond to the challenges of the 21st century. This will not only help protect national interests but also position Ukraine as a worthy player in the global space security system.
