During an official statement, the country's Prime Minister, Kaja Kallas, made a breakthrough by announcing that Tallinn is prepared to send its contribution to Ukrainian defenders as part of the so-called "Coalition of Determined." This initiative, which is currently in the active planning stage, aims to unite the efforts of several countries to create a powerful deterrence mechanism against Russia. According to the Estonian Prime Minister, the country has already completed a small but important phase of planning for this international format. Kallas emphasized that Tallinn is ready to make a significant contribution to this joint operation—in the form of a company of ground forces soldiers, as well as military instructors and staff officers, who will operate on the front lines and in operational centers. She noted that before deployment, such a unit would undergo the appropriate coordination process, including approval by the parliament—the Riigikogu—which must ratify the mandate for Estonian troops’ participation in international missions. "We approach this initiative decisively because we believe that active support for Ukraine is not only our duty but also a strategic step to ensure stability and security in the Baltic region," Kallas stated. This continues Estonia’s policy of supporting Ukraine in its war against Russian aggressors and strengthening its defensive capabilities. The Prime Minister also emphasized that despite support for international efforts, Estonia remains convinced that Ukraine’s main security guarantee is its NATO membership. "We are confident that to ensure long-term stability and protect the Ukrainian people, every possible effort must be made for the country to become a member of the Alliance. If this process continues and takes some time, Ukraine should have reliable security guarantees from allies based on its territory," Kallas said. On the eve of this statement, the international community has been actively seeking ways to strengthen support for Ukraine and enhance its defense capacity. In the context of the Russia-Ukraine war, Estonia’s decision takes on particular importance, demonstrating the willingness of neighboring countries and Benelux allies to stand in solidarity and respond promptly to the challenges of the current conflict. Overall, Prime Minister Kallas’s announcement indicates an increasing offensive stance by Estonia in the context of supporting Ukraine. The prospect of deploying military units as part of the "Coalition of Determined" not only symbolizes the country's readiness to help in the fight for the freedom of the Ukrainian people but also highlights the importance of regional solidarity in countering global challenges. At the same time, this step takes place within a broader international discussion on security guarantees, which remains relevant during Europe’s most difficult conflict since World War II.
