According to Ukrainian meteorologists’ forecasts, the first day of May will be quite warm, although with some weather quirks

On Thursday, May 1st, the country will breathe a sigh of relief — predominantly in the south, central regions, and the east, dry and warm weather will prevail. However, short-term rains will begin moving in from the west and north, which — depending on the region — may seem like not a very serious surprise for this season. According to data from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, on the first day of the month, during a brief thunderstorm in the western, northern, central regions, and in Kharkiv, nighttime temperatures will fluctuate between 5 and 10 degrees Celsius, while in the south and along coastlines of seas, it will be slightly higher — up to 13 degrees. During the day, heat is not expected — with maximum temperatures reaching 19-24 degrees in the southern and central areas, whereas the north will experience cooler conditions — around 15-20 degrees. On the first day of May, wind will blow from the east and north-west at speeds of 3-8 meters per second; during the day, its speed will increase to 7-12 m/s — with gusts of 15-20 m/s, especially in the northern and central zones. These weather conditions will create a somewhat cool contrast to the sunny weather and may slightly complicate transportation movements. Regarding Kyiv, it is expected to be dry without precipitation in the first half of the day. Nighttime temperatures will be around 8-10 degrees Celsius, and during the day, 16-18 degrees. The maximum temperature recorded in the city’s historical meteorological records for this day remains stable — the highest, documented in 2012, was 30 degrees Celsius, while the lowest, in 1940, was 0.6 degrees below zero. Another interesting fact — on Friday, May 2nd, truly almost fairy-tale weather is expected across Ukraine. The country will enjoy an almost entirely dry atmosphere nearly everywhere, except for the eastern regions, where a slight rainfall might temper the atmosphere overnight. Wind on this day will come from the northeast and will be quite brisk — 5-10 meters per second. Temperatures at night will drop to 1-6 degrees, and possible frosts of 0-5 degrees are likely in the south and western areas — a fairly typical phenomenon for early spring. During the day, temperatures will rise to 12-17 degrees, with southwestern regions forecasted to be warmer — between 16 and 21 degrees, while the northeast will be cooler — within 9-14 degrees. Kyiv will once again stay under the influence of sunlight without precipitation. Winds from the northwest will continue to bring moderate coolness — 5-10 m/s, and nighttime temperatures will stay around 3-5 degrees, with daytime temperatures between 14 and 16 degrees. Overall, the first week of May in most regions will feature a pattern of changing warm weather and brief showers. It is one of the best periods for outdoor walks, spring trips, and celebrating Labor Day. At the same time, it’s wise to be prepared for sudden cooling and possible short-lived rains, especially in the western and northern parts of the country. Therefore, Ukrainians should carefully plan their daily activities, taking into account this variable but mostly warm and blooming weather that is no longer far away.
