Ukraine has completed a large-scale evacuation process of its citizens from the Syrian camp Roj, which had long remained one of the most difficult and dangerous points in the region
The last Ukrainian woman with two children, who had been in this closed camp for a prolonged period, was successfully evacuated through a special operation carried out in cooperation between the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. This significant stage of the evacuation was announced by Andriy Sybiha, the official representative of the Ukrainian military authorities and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. According to him, the rescue mission, carefully planned and executed within the framework of the directive from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, aimed to free Ukrainians who had been confined in the Roj camp in Syria under Kurdish control for more than six years. It was one of the most challenging and lengthy phases in the work of Ukrainian diplomats and intelligence agencies. As reported by the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), the evacuation was successfully completed: the last Ukrainian woman was extracted from the Roj camp, and together with her two minor children, she was able to return to her native Ukraine. Sources indicate that the woman is now on Ukrainian territory, where she was met by relatives and loved ones who had waited many years for this moment. Just a few years ago, it was impossible for her and her children to meet even their most basic needs for safety and humanitarian assistance, but now her return has become a symbol of the successful work of Ukrainian diplomats and security services. According to GUR, just a few months ago, about 89 Ukrainians were in the Syrian camp Roj, most of whom were women. Many of them were originally from the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and other regions of Ukraine. They ended up in Syria due to personal reasons and unconsciously found themselves in difficult and even risky circumstances, including seeking a better life or participating in various conflict situations. Overall, since the start of the evacuation operation, Ukrainian diplomatic communities in Syria have managed to bring home 14 women and 41 children, which is the full list of Ukrainian citizens who expressed a desire to leave the dangerous area. This is a significant achievement, as this category of citizens is the most vulnerable and susceptible to threats and challenges of modern conflicts. While rescuing Ukrainian citizens from Syria, Ukrainian specialists acted very carefully and responsibly, meticulously planning each stage of the operation to avoid any risks to the lives and health of the people involved. They took into account all possible dangers, organized a safe transfer from the camp to the destination point, and then to Ukraine. It was an extremely complex process that required high skill and coordinated efforts from all participants. Thus, the completion of the evacuation operation from the Syrian Roj camp marks an important achievement for Ukrainian diplomacy and security. It demonstrates the state's priority in preserving the lives and dignity of its citizens even in the most difficult circumstances. Ukraine has already announced its intention to continue supporting its citizens abroad and is actively working on mechanisms to prevent repeated cases of Ukrainians falling into similar crises.
