In Russia, reports have emerged of a large-scale drone airstrike on the Bryansk region, marking one of the most significant such attacks in the area in recent months
According to official sources, on the night of April 28, unidentified drones attempted to penetrate Russian territory again, and the consequences of their sortie were quite serious for local residents and strategic facilities. Bryansk Region Governor Alexander Bogomaz announced via his Telegram channel that, in response to the nighttime attack, regional air defense units successfully destroyed a significant number of drones. The official stated that 102 Ukrainian drones trying to infiltrate the region were shot down. Additionally, a regional representative added that, as a result of the clashes in Bryansk city, one person was killed and another wounded, causing alarm among local residents and increasing tensions in the region. Overall, the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed the downing of 115 drones during this nighttime period. Of these, the largest number — 102 — were intercepted over Bryansk region, nine over the temporarily occupied Crimea, two over Kursk region, one over Belgorod region, and one drone was detected in the Black Sea area. The operational situation remains tense, with Russian air defenses operating to the best of their ability to minimize the damage from the attack. Local Telegram channels reported fires in Bryansk on Moskovskaya and Chervonoarmeyskaya streets. This further confirms the level of destruction caused by the drones and demonstrates an escalation in the use of drone tactics in the conflict. In particular, on Chervonoarmeyskaya Street, 103, there is an important regional industrial facility — the "Kremeniy El" plant. This enterprise is one of Russia’s main suppliers of military microelectronics, holding strategic importance for military production. The plant manufactures a wide range of microchips and components used in precision weapons systems, including the "Topol-M" and "Bulla" missile complexes, S-300 and S-400 air defense systems, as well as onboard electronics for combat aircraft. The history of targeted attacks on military-related facilities in Bryansk region has its background. In January 2025, the "Kremeniy El" plant was struck by drones, likely directed there by Ukrainian intelligence services as part of broader operations. The October 2024 attack, which also posed a challenge to Russia’s defense industry, was not incidental. These incidents underscore the increasing tension and point to the escalation of hybrid warfare conducted by Ukraine against Russia, employing drones and cyberattacks to strike strategic targets. Russia has not officially acknowledged direct involvement in such attacks; however, their scale and deliberate targeting speak for themselves. Overall, the situation around Bryansk region remains tense, and the potential for new provocations and strikes continues to raise concerns among local populations and Russian military structures. Experts note that such actions are elements of modern hybrid warfare, actively used in current conflicts to exert pressure on opponents and create a new reality.
