Over twenty injured and five deaths: consequences of shelling in Donetsk and Kherson regions on April 26

On Tuesday, April 26, the occupying Russian forces once again carried out attacks on eastern and southern Ukraine, resulting in significant human losses and destruction. According to regional military administrations, five people were killed and over twenty injured as a result of these shellings on that day. The greatest suffering was recorded in Donetsk region, where Russian troops killed four civilians. Specifically, tragedies occurred in Kostiantynivka, where two people died from shrapnel and enemy shells, as well as in the settlements of Novoekonomichne and Zorya, where one local resident was killed in each. In addition to the fatalities, at least 17 people received injuries of varying severity in the region. Doctors report that seven of the wounded are residents of Kostiantynivka, with several others injured in Novoekonomichne, Nikanorivka, Zorya, and Siversk. Overall, the day turned out to be one of the bloodiest in recent times for Donetsk, as the majority of the injured are in serious condition, with some in critical condition. The settlements are covered in dust and debris, and residents are forced to hide in basements, waiting for the calm that has once again returned to the region. Another tragedy occurred in Kherson region, where one person was killed as a result of shelling. Official data also reports that five residents of this region were injured. The victims are mainly civilians caught in the fire of Russian missiles, which are heavily shelled. People report destruction of their homes, infrastructure damage, and extensive destruction of residential and social facilities. These shellings once again demonstrate the ruthless nature of Russian forces and their targeted tactics of intimidation and destruction of civilian populations. Ukrainian security and military services continue relentless efforts to prevent further mass violence and to identify those responsible for these crimes. Official authorities urge peaceful residents to be extremely cautious and emphasize the need to strengthen security measures and improve the regions' defense capabilities. While Russian troops continue to shell Ukrainian territories, humanitarian organizations and volunteers are working intensively to assist the affected populations, providing medicines, food, and shelter. Official Kyiv calls on the world not to remain indifferent to this humanitarian crisis caused by war and to strengthen sanctions against the Russian Federation to accelerate its end. In summary, this day once again highlights the high cost of war—lives lost, destruction, and ongoing tension. Combating this violence and restoring Ukraine to peaceful life can only be achieved through joint efforts and support from the international community.
