Ukrainian General Staff has dismissed Vladimir Putin’s claims of a silent end to hostilities in the Kursk region of Russia

Representatives of the Ukrainian command strongly deny any attempts by Russian military forces to conceal the true state of the frontlines, emphasizing that Ukrainian defenders continue to fiercely resist and hold strategic positions in the eastern part of the country. In response to reports circulated in Russian media about purportedly concluding active hostilities in the Kursk region, the Ukrainian General Staff issued an official statement, highlighting that Ukrainian units are still in a defensive posture, maintaining their positions, and systematically executing their assigned tasks. The statement underscores that, despite Russian claims, Ukrainian troops are successfully holding designated lines and inflicting significant fire damage on the enemy with all available types of weapons, employing an active defense tactic. According to the General Staff, since the beginning of the day, the enemy has attempted five assaults in areas under Ukrainian control in the Kursk region, one of which is still ongoing. This indicates a tense situation on the frontline and the persistent struggle of Ukrainian forces, who do not retreat and continue to effectively oppose the adversary. The Ukrainian General Staff emphasizes that the threat of encirclement of Ukrainian units in this area is currently absent. The Russian claims of an "end to hostilities" are described as propaganda disinformation and an attempt to create a false impression of the situation at the front. The military authorities stress that such messages are solely informational manipulation and reflect the Russian propagandists' desire to portray victories where none exist. Additionally, active fighting continues in the northeastern part of the country – in Belgorod region of Russia. There, Ukrainian military personnel conduct raids and execute tactical tasks, which adds to the tension along the border. It is worth recalling that on April 26, Russian authorities announced that the last settlement in the Kursk region — Gorny — had been "liberated from Ukrainian Armed Forces." However, these statements by Russian military and political figures are inconsistent with Ukrainian data and the current frontline situation, indicating the complex and unpredictable nature of this war. Ukrainian forces continue to maintain morale and defend their positions despite informational pressure and publications from Russian sources aimed at presenting the situation in their favor.
