Intense political and military discussions are ongoing in the United Kingdom regarding future steps to support Ukraine, particularly concerning the abandonment of the idea to deploy British forces for monitoring ceasefire agreements in the country. Sources close to government circles and military leadership express concerns about high risks and the limited possibilities of such an operation. This information is reported by the Ukrainian publication "European Pravda," citing the reputable British outlet The Times. According to journalists' information, an internal debate is currently taking place in the UK, questioning the feasibility and safety of dispatching thousands of troops to control points in key Ukrainian cities. The original idea was for British forces to help ensure compliance with ceasefire terms, but it is now under question due to the high level of danger and the impossibility of guaranteeing the safety of British soldiers in the conflict zone. Instead, or alongside this, UK leaders, together with France, plan to focus on other avenues of assistance to Ukraine—primarily enhancing air and sea defense capabilities. This decision involves strengthening air and maritime defenses, as well as increasing military aid in the form of weapons and technical support to the Ukrainian armed forces. Additionally, there is a possibility of deploying British military instructors to Western Ukraine for training and preparation of Ukrainian units. British circles note that such an approach has a greater chance of being implemented without excessive risks and would also contribute to strengthening Ukraine's defensive capacities. According to anonymous sources, "the risks are too high, and the forces' capabilities are insufficient to successfully carry out such a ceasefire control operation." "Britain has always maintained a cautious stance on this matter. France, on the other hand, has supported a more forceful approach," a high-ranking UK defense official told The Times. Analysts and military experts suggest that such adjustments within the "Coalition of the Determined" could help soften Russia’s position, creating conditions for a future peace agreement. They believe that Britain and its allies' cautious approach might compel Russia to change tactics and become more willing to negotiate, as direct military intervention in the form of ceasefire monitoring remains too risky and unstable. The UK Ministry of Defence officially dismisses any assumptions regarding specific plans to deploy military personnel in Ukraine. A spokesperson told The Times that "operational planning among coalition allies is ongoing in accordance with voluntary agreements." The spokesperson added that they are preparing various scenarios "on land, sea, and in the air," as well as measures to restore and strengthen the Ukrainian armed forces. It is worth recalling that the original goals set by the "Coalition of the Determined" included establishing a safe sky, controlling maritime routes, restoring peace on land, and forming a strong Ukrainian army. All of these aim, in the long run, to enhance security and stability in the region. However, their implementation is currently complicated by high risks and diplomatic constraints. Therefore, in the near future, further discussions are expected regarding the most effective and safe mechanisms to support Ukraine amidst active military aggression and diplomatic challenges. This strategic shift indicates the Western countries' intention to maintain their cautious stance and avoid outright military involvement, while still aiming to assist Ukraine as effectively as possible and without unnecessary risks.
