Zelensky strongly condemns the cynical Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities and calls for an immediate ceasefire
In the context of increasing tension and even greater brutality of Russian terror, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has spoken out against the cynical nature of recent strikes by Russian forces on peaceful Ukrainian cities. The head of state emphasizes the need for an immediate cessation of hostilities and states that all proposals for establishing a comprehensive ceasefire remain open and valid. In his social media posts, Volodymyr Zelensky highlighted that the efforts of the Ukrainian leadership are aimed at stopping the bloodshed and returning to diplomatic conflict resolution. He pointed out that rescue operations are ongoing in Kharkiv, where Russian drones carried out cynical strikes, and also a severe airstrike was launched on Zaporizhzhia, leading to destruction and human tragedies. According to Zelensky, as a result of these attacks, a civilian woman was killed, and over 20 people were wounded, including four children. The nighttime drone strikes on Odessa region were particularly severe. Throughout the day, the enemy also shelled Sumy, Kharkiv, Donetsk, and southern regions of Ukraine, continuing to terrorize the civilian population. The head of state emphasized: “This is targeted Russian terror, which could have been stopped with one order. But that order exists in Moscow and for the Russian military. Easter showed that Ukrainians deserve silence and security — during the celebrations in Ukraine, there were no air sirens, and we aim to maintain peace and stability.” Zelensky added that the Ukrainian side continues to offer the possibility of extending the ceasefire, making it longer and more comprehensive to give Ukrainians a chance to rest and recover. “We remain open to various options and call on Russia to show seriousness in readiness for negotiations. There are no obstacles from Ukraine’s side to dialogue, and there never were,” the president stressed, convinced that the world must overcome this shameful campaign of cynical terror and find a path to a just peace. Amid the recent tragic events, Ukrainian authorities emphasize that responses to enemy brutality must be decisive and united. All efforts are aimed at ensuring the safety and lives of citizens, while the international community calls for increased sanctions and the pursuit of dialogue to end the war. Ukraine believes in the possibility of returning to diplomatic avenues and urges the global community not to remain indifferent, supporting the Ukrainian people in their fight for freedom and independence.
