Ukrainian defenders warn: “Putin’s ceasefire” only creates an illusion of calm, as in reality the Russian army uses this time to strengthen its positions and prepare for new offensives

The history of the "Easter ceasefire" declared by the Kremlin has proven to be a complete fiction: instead of reducing tensions and seeking diplomatic avenues to peace, Russia flexed its muscles and launched a large-scale artillery campaign, using this pause for rearmament and fortification of its positions. Anastasia Blyshchyk, spokeswoman for the 66th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Mstyslav Khorobryi, stated directly on the "Suspilne.News" channel: “In fact, the so-called ‘ceasefire’ caused us much more harm, because as soon as senior officials of the Kremlin announced a 'calm', Russian forces immediately activated. A few hours after the statement, a massive artillery attack on our positions began, attack drones were used, and individual enemy units conducted infantry assaults. This was not just a show of good will — the Russians took advantage of this time for re-equipment, mobilizing troops, and tactical improvements." According to her, Ukrainian defenders recorded the ruthlessness of the occupiers’ tactics — they actively supplied their infantry with weapons, including RPGs and machine guns, within destroyed buildings, forest belts, and trenches. Reconnaissance aerial photos show that over 120 enemy troops are scattered in the rear zones. A source from the front reports that immediately after the official cancellation of the “ceasefire,” Russian forces launched a large-scale infantry offensive. More than ten attacks were recorded in a single day on April 21 in the Lyman direction, within the area of responsibility of the 66nd Brigade. This confirms that the gap in the “pause” was used for regrouping and preparing new strikes. Overall, the situation in this strategically important sector remains tense and difficult. Ukrainian forces continue to hold the line, but the Russians set high targets and do not see the need to adhere to the announced “regimes of silence.” They invest significant resources in strengthening their positions, complicating the situation for Ukrainian defenders, for whom each day is a fight not only for territory but also for survival and the hope of fully returning all occupied lands under Ukrainian control.
