Meteorologists warn Ukrainians: when to expect significant cold snaps and how long the warming will last
The upcoming weekend in Ukraine promises a change in atmospheric conditions and a drop in temperatures, but currently, there is no talk of severe frosts or freezes. This was reported by the chief forecaster of the Ukrhydrometeorological Centre, Natalia Ptukha, on the national telethon, according to the news agency "Ukrinform." She emphasized that changes are already on the way, but it is currently difficult to predict the exact timing and scale of the cooling due to the variable nature of weather processes. "Starting this weekend, our country will experience some disruptions in weather conditions. This will be influenced by atmospheric flows that are now ceasing to come from southern latitudes and partly account for the temporary warming," she explains. "From the weekend, colder air masses will begin to arrive from the north and northern regions. Therefore, temperatures will gradually decrease. However, it is too early to say exactly how low they will go and whether frosts should be expected. It depends on the nature of atmospheric circulation, precipitation levels, and cloud cover. If rains or snow occur during the weekend, frosts are unlikely. And with increased cloudiness and rainfall, nighttime temperatures are unlikely to drop below zero, so frost in the coming days should not be anticipated," the expert adds. She also warns that the situation requires continuous monitoring, as any precipitation or significant cooling could change the forecast. "We closely watch the weather conditions and advise all residents of the country to stay alert to official warnings from the Ukrhydrometeorological Centre and to respond promptly to weather changes," Natalia Ptukha emphasizes. What causes the temporary warming? The forecaster explains that the main reason is the circulation of air masses in the atmosphere. Currently, warm air flows are arriving from southern and southeastern latitudes, bringing a more comfortable and even somewhat warmer climate regime to our territory. "Thanks to this, most regions are experiencing mostly clear weather. In many areas, temperatures have already reached high values, sometimes even exceeding the average climate norms for April. This creates a feeling of warmth and comfort compared to the early days of the month when frosts still occurred," she notes. According to Natalia Ptukha, in the coming days, temperatures across Ukraine will range between 21 and 26 degrees Celsius. Regions with a lower temperature threshold around 21 degrees are mainly in the western regions and part of the southeastern areas, where short-term rain may occur during the day. In other regions, the temperature remains elevated, reaching 25-26 degrees in some places. This further confirms that the current cooling and warming are temporary, and weather conditions are rapidly changing. The forecaster states that Ukrainians can expect stable and comfortable weather in the coming days, but with caution—they should monitor daily forecasts and official meteorological reports. Only by doing so can they prevent unforeseen difficulties and stay prepared for any changes in weather conditions.
