This unexpected news has caused a wide resonance in political circles and among public organizations, as he was an active participant in parliamentary life and known for his democratic positions. According to the press service of the Verkhovna Rada, the leadership of the parliament, colleagues, and parliamentary staff express their sincere condolences to Volodymyr Moroz’s family and loved ones. In their comments, they emphasize the importance of his contribution to the development of Ukrainian energy and transport sectors, noting that he was head of the subcommittee on electricity and energy transportation within the Committee on Energy and Utilities of the Verkhovna Rada. The politician was 56 years old. Volodymyr Moroz was one of the most active deputies of the IX convocation, and before being elected to Parliament, he was also known in political circles. He was elected as a People's Deputy from district No. 59 in Donetsk region, a region currently experiencing difficult times due to military conflict and political instability. It is worth noting that he was previously a member of the now-banned political force "Opposition Platform — For Life." A sudden turn in his political career occurred on March 24, 2022, when during a Verkhovna Rada session, five deputies, including Volodymyr Moroz, announced their decision to leave the faction "Opposition Platform — For Life." They explained this by their desire to distance themselves from politics and positions that did not align with the official platform of their former party. They registered the relevant statements and officially exited the faction, expressing their intention to continue working in the Verkhovna Rada in their individual political mandates. Of particular interest is the fact that Volodymyr Moroz was one of the initiators of a legislative initiative aimed at reforming Ukraine’s electoral legislation. His authorship of bill No. 7476-3 involved proposing to deprive deputies from banned and proscribed political parties of their parliamentary mandates. This was an important step toward purifying the political space and combating political populism and corruption. The bill provided that deputies representing banned or anti-representational political structures would lose their mandates immediately after relevant court decisions or parliamentary votes. However, in his and his colleagues’ version, they proposed to preserve the right of former collaborating deputies to continue professional activity in state structures or local self-government bodies, which sparked some debate among experts and the public regarding the effectiveness and fairness of such measures. It is hard to imagine that precisely this political activity, personal contribution to legislation, as well as his humanity and openness to dialogue, made Volodymyr Moroz a true fighter for democratic values in Ukraine’s difficult times. His death has dealt a heavy blow to colleagues and the political community as a whole. Losing such a politician is losing an experienced professional who valued honesty and responsibility in his work. politicians, civic activists, and ordinary citizens express their condolences to his family and all who knew him, and call to preserve the memory of his contribution to the fight for a better future for an independent Ukraine. Currently, farewell events are underway, and many sincere words and warm wishes for the future have been received. Volodymyr Moroz will be remembered as a person who valued his country, was ready to defend its interests, and fought for justice even under the most difficult circumstances. Eternal memory!
