The Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation announced the resumption of hostilities in the aggressor country after the official “ceasefire” in Ukraine ended
On Monday, the Russian authorities reported that the occupying forces continued their aggressive war on the Ukrainian front, despite the previously declared "Easter truce." This is part of another attempt by Moscow to justify its actions by employing official rhetoric and hiding behind the supposedly observed ceasefire regime. The source of this information was the Ministry of Defence of Russia, and the statement was disseminated by Russian media, including "Kommersant" and propagandist TV channels. According to their reports, after the expiration of the "ceasefire" agreement, Russian troops allegedly continued military operations without interruption. The official position states: "The armed forces of the Russian Federation have continued conducting a special military operation," using the terminology that Moscow employs to describe the war in Ukraine. The ministry claims that Russian troops adhered to the "ceasefire regime" and remained on the already occupied lines and positions, although in reality, shelling of Ukrainian positions and enemy special operations efforts continue. They also reported that Russian forces intensified their activity using drones and fire support to destroy Ukrainian targets, while Ukrainian military responses include shelling and countermeasures. Regarding the period before the ceasefire ended, on April 19th, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced an "Easter truce," which was to last from the evening of that day until midnight on April 21st. According to official information, this pause in hostilities was meant to be mutual and was intended to create conditions for diplomatic negotiations. The Russian Defence Ministry specifically stated that the occupiers would strictly adhere to the ceasefire regime, provided Kyiv abides by it as well. However, as reported by the Ukrainian side, including Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi, Russian troops violated the "Easter truce" at least 2,935 times. President Volodymyr Zelensky published data on these violations and emphasized that Ukrainian forces would respond with mirror measures to any aggressive actions from Moscow. Meanwhile, Ukrainian military personnel continue to resolutely resist and use all available means to defend Ukrainian sovereignty and the population. Thus, the proclaimed ceasefire has essentially turned into another cycle of armed chaos, highlighting Russia’s inability to adhere to any agreements on stopping the fire and fueling further escalation of the conflict. Kyiv and the international community are watching the situation with concern and are calling for objective and impartial international response, as the claims of "violations" of the silence regime and the intensification of hostilities by Russian forces cast doubt on any attempts to find a peaceful resolution to this tragic war.
