Russia is increasingly "zombifying" and militarizing its youth, using educational programs to foster nationalist and pro-Russian sentiments, according to British intelligence data. Against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine, the Kremlin is strengthening its ideological educational policies aimed at consolidating military and expansionist rhetoric among the youngest generations of Russians. British analysts warn that such a systematic reorientation of education will entrench aggressive attitudes in society, potentially impacting Russia's domestic and foreign policy prospects. According to intelligence assessments, the Kremlin is deliberately utilizing the educational infrastructure to shape the ideology of militarism and nationalism, which will embed in the youth's consciousness an image of the hostile West and the "Ukrainian regime." As part of the Youth Strategy-2024, particular emphasis is placed on increasing the prestige of military service and supporting military families. This indicates a targeted policy to promote patriotism and enhance support for the ongoing war led by Moscow. Sources from Russian media "Verstka" report that textbooks and educational materials for schoolchildren increasingly contain texts supporting the "special military operation" and anti-Byzantine messages against the West. Simultaneously, intra-Russian and pro-Russian propaganda is accompanied by efforts to deliberately minimize mentions of Ukraine, especially in the context of closing any critical or neutral statements regarding that country. It is believed that these changes in the education system are part of a broader strategy to instill pro-Russian imperial rhetoric among youth and to justify an aggressive policy towards neighbors. British intelligence analysts emphasize that the main goal of such ideological indoctrination is to strengthen youth support for continuing military actions against Ukraine, especially in the context of significant Russian army losses. Moreover, there is an increasing entrenchment of denial among Russian youth of any legitimacy of internationally recognized reasons for Ukraine's existence as a state. According to their forecasts, this propaganda campaign, directed through the education system and youth programs, will reinforce long-term attitudes of aggression and imperialism in society. It is noteworthy that earlier in April this year, British intelligence already pointed out that Russia had lost over 900,000 military personnel killed and wounded during the full-scale war. The losses since the beginning of 2025 are estimated at approximately 138,000 people. Additionally, inflation and economic instability are said to be increasing pressure on Russia’s ability to sustain high defense expenditures, creating further challenges for the Russian army and government overall. Thus, it appears that Moscow is intensifying its efforts to indoctrinate youth through military propaganda, using the education system as a field for pro-Russian ideology. This suggests that in the future, society will see a growing number of supporters of aggressive policies, moving towards the consolidation and strengthening of imperialist sentiments in Russia.
