A man in Kamianske opened fire with an automatic rifle, causing a widespread resonance in local media and society overall

The incident occurred in the second half of the day on April 20 on the city's Left Bank, and fortunately, it ended without human casualties, although it created a tense situation that prompted law enforcement to act quickly and decisively. According to information provided by the police of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, during a rigorous arrest operation for the suspect, local law enforcement identified a 44-year-old man who suddenly became aggressive and opened fire with a Kalashnikov rifle. The incident happened directly in the yard of a multi-story building, at a time when many residents were at home or out for walks. Eyewitnesses and videos published on social media reported that the man was firing into the air and at surrounding objects, creating real danger. Reports of the gunfire came to the police around 2:30 p.m., and within minutes, a response team and investigators arrived at the scene. They quickly located and detained the suspect, seized the Kalashnikov rifle, which was likely in a ready-to-fire state. Preliminary information indicates that the detained individual was heavily intoxicated. Law enforcement officials noted that the man was probably behaving loudly, possibly under the influence of alcohol or other substances, which may have led to his sudden aggression and the shooting. Fortunately, no one was injured or hurt as a result of the incident. A criminal case has been initiated under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to hooliganism. The offender faces up to seven years in prison. Investigative actions are ongoing as authorities clarify all circumstances of the event, as well as establish the motives and identity of the detained individual. This incident once again highlights the problem of illegally owned weapons in the city and the need to strengthen security measures and fight illegal arms trafficking. Local law enforcement urges citizens to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity that might lead to dangerous situations in public places. Overall, this incident posed a crisis challenge for the city authorities and law enforcement agencies of Kamianske, who have already initiated an internal review and plan to enhance patrol services to prevent similar incidents in the future. In Ukraine, citizen safety is a top priority, and any manifestations of aggression and illegal weapons must be immediately stopped and punished according to the law.
