A serious road accident occurred in Vinnytsia Region: a scheduled bus skidded off the road into a ditch, resulting in injuries to seven passengers, including a child, and one of the injured is a foreign national
This incident is one of the few in the region over the past few months that has drawn the attention of law enforcement authorities and local officials to the safety issues on Ukrainian roads. According to the Vinnytsia Regional Police, the incident took place on April 20th around 10 a.m. on a highway connecting Vystupovichi, Zhytomyr, and Mogiliv-Podilsk, between the villages of Horay and Pryvitne in the Murovano-Kurilivka territorial community. Preliminary investigations indicate that the culprit of the accident is a 64-year-old driver of a Scania bus, a Moldovan citizen, who, according to available information, caused the vehicle to leave the roadway and enter a ditch. As a result of the accident, seven passengers were at the scene, including an eight-year-old child and a 48-year-old foreign national. Authorities report that five of the injured were hospitalized with various injuries. All victims received necessary medical assistance. Currently, the vehicle involved in the accident has been impounded, and investigators have already begun a comprehensive series of examinations to determine all the circumstances of the incident and the causes that led to it. Under the criminal law, a criminal proceeding has been initiated under Part 1 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides liability for violating traffic rules or operating transport by individuals who drive vehicles. Law enforcement is now investigating all aspects of the incident, in particular whether all necessary safety standards were followed and how exactly the driver caused the vehicle to leave the road. This incident once again highlights the road safety issues in the region and the need for stricter control over vehicle conditions and adherence to traffic rules by drivers. Conducting all necessary examinations will help establish the exact cause of the accident and prevent similar incidents in the future. Nevertheless, this tragedy serves as a reminder of the high level of responsibility each road participant bears and the importance of raising safety standards on Ukrainian roads.
