The rescue and emergency response operations in Kharkiv have been completed after the extensive efforts carried out in response to the morning missile attack by Russian forces
The incident occurred on April 18 and left behind destruction, human casualties, and a psychological burden for the city’s residents. According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, the aftermath of the attack has been fully addressed, and all necessary work to restore infrastructure and aid the affected has been completed. One person died as a result of the strike, and 114 others were injured of varying severity, including nine minors. The primary focus of the efforts to eliminate the consequences of the missile attack was on clearing the city from debris and damages. According to representatives of the State Emergency Service, fire and rescue units, together with municipal services, worked for several hours to remove threats and stabilize the situation. Over 45 cubic meters of construction garbage were transported away, including debris and damages at the sites of destruction, where emergency structures from three apartment buildings and one educational institution were dismantled. In addition to technical work, personnel of the State Emergency Service played a vital role in providing psychological support to the victims. They assisted 150 residents who sustained injuries or experienced stress due to the enemy shelling. Regarding the details of the attack, it took place in the early morning hours when Russian troops used ballistic missiles with cluster munitions. According to the prosecutor’s office, it is highly likely that three "Iskander" missiles of fragmentation-high explosive type were used. Authorities stated that at least one missile exploded in the air, which was likely done to maximize damage, as the high-explosive warhead damaged buildings and infrastructure in the city. This attack once again highlights the high level of danger and destructive nature of Russian aggression, which continues to strike residential areas and civilian populations in Kharkiv. The city remains in a state of heightened alert and constant tension, as the risk of new shellings persists. Authorities and rescue services urge residents to remain vigilant and follow safety instructions to minimize risks and respond quickly in the event of further attacks.
