This response was prompted by a publication from the popular American outlet New York Post, which claimed that Ukrainian authorities were supposedly ready to support the peace plan proposed by Donald Trump, previously presented in Paris. According to the newspaper, citing a high-ranking official from the Biden administration, Ukrainian Defense Minister Roste Umerov reportedly informed American colleagues that Kyiv "agrees" with the proposal approved by US Secretary of State Mark Rubbio by 90%. However, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense quickly reacted to this information, emphasizing its unreliability. Representatives of the department, in particular, stressed that they do not make political decisions and do not have the authority to give percentage assessments regarding support for various international initiatives. In a comment to Sky News, an official spokesperson for the defense department stated: "We supported the US proposal for a complete ceasefire back on March 11, but unfortunately, Russia has ignored it, continuing daily shelling of our cities and civilian infrastructure. This makes it impossible to determine any progress or support for any plans in percentage terms." In other words, according to the Ministry of Defense representative, the Ukrainian Armed Forces advocate for de-escalation and peaceful conflict resolution but cannot provide percentage evaluations due to the lack of concrete positive signals from Russia’s side. Furthermore, the department emphasized that for Ukraine, the most important thing is to ensure real and reliable control over compliance with any agreements and the ceasefire. "We strive for constructive dialogue with our partners in the US and, with their support, are working to establish a long-term and stable cessation of hostilities. But the implementation of any peace initiatives must depend on concrete actions and Russia’s immediate willingness to pursue peace, considering its daily shelling and armed aggression," the Ministry of Defense stressed. The department assured that Ukraine will continue to work diligently toward diplomatic solutions to the conflict and maintains an open dialogue with Western partners to find a fair and sustainable resolution that aligns with the country’s interests. Thus, the statements by the President and the Ministry of Defense regarding support for peaceful initiatives remain unchanged, while also highlighting the importance of objective information and realistic assessments of the situation. Ukraine, which faces daily new attacks and destruction, emphasizes the necessity of genuine compliance with promises and ending aggression so that any diplomatic efforts can lead to tangible results with long-lasting effects.
