On Thursday, April 17, the city of Kherson was again the target of a brutal Russian air attack, resulting in human casualties and property damage. According to official information from the Kherson Regional Military Administration, a 16-year-old child was killed as a result of the attack, and several other people were injured and hospitalized. The incident occurred in the Central District of the city — it was here, according to local authorities, that Russian forces carried out the strike. Unfortunately, the consequences proved tragic: a teenager who sustained severe injuries during the attack died in the hospital. Official sources report that overall, on April 18, nine people of various ages were affected by Russian strikes on Kherson, four of whom were in critical condition. Destruction and Damage in Residential Areas The destructive impact of the attack affected not only people but also the local infrastructure. Military officials state that Russian forces deliberately targeted residential neighborhoods, leading to significant damage. Specifically, three multi-storey buildings and five private houses were damaged. In addition to residential sectors, objects of agricultural machinery, a hangar, and private vehicles were struck, suffering severe damage or being completely destroyed. It should also be noted that critical infrastructure objects were damaged as a result of the attack, which complicates daily life for residents and increases tension in the area. Background and Other Victims This is not the first incident in recent weeks where Russian forces have launched massive air strikes on Kherson. Earlier on Thursday, five people were injured in an airstrike on the city’s Central Bank. According to reports, one of the injured — a man — died during the attack. Residential buildings and infrastructure facilities were also damaged in this case. Local authorities urge residents to stay calm and remind them to close shelters during alarms. They emphasize that such attacks are likely to continue in the future and call on the population to remain vigilant and cautious. Overall, the situation in Kherson remains tense, and human losses serve as a serious reminder of the cost of war. The local government, volunteers, and residents continue to mobilize efforts to assist the affected and to restore the destroyed objects, but the sense of security continues to be under question. Authorities call on the international community to respond more actively to the humanitarian crisis in the region and provide necessary support for housing recovery and to reduce human tragedies that repeat again and again.
