Russian occupying forces continue their terror against the peaceful residents of Donetsk region, cynically destroying residential areas and public infrastructure in the territories under their control

According to recent reports, as a result of another massive shelling, two Ukrainian citizens were killed, and four others sustained injuries of varying severity. This is yet another stark example of Russia’s ongoing targeted policy of terror and intimidation against the civilian population of Donetsk and other regions of Ukraine. According to information published by the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the morning of April 17 was devastating for several families in Donetsk region, as around 8:40–8:50 a.m., Russian armed formations opened fire on the city of Kostiantynivka, using the “Smerch” multiple launch rocket system. As a result of the shelling, a 53-year-old local resident received fatal injuries incompatible with life. Two women, aged 51 and 72, also sustained injuries of varying severity: they suffered mine-explosion injuries, shrapnel wounds, leg fractures, and cuts, requiring urgent medical aid. Additionally, Russian terrorists dropped an FAБ-250 bomb, likely equipped with a uranium mine detonation device, on the village of Rusyn Yar, which is part of the Illinivka community. Unfortunately, a 60-year-old local resident was killed in a private house near the impact site when the explosion occurred. Meanwhile, two more civilians were injured during shelling of the village of Novoekonomichne in the Pokrovsk district. They are a 31-year-old woman and a 71-year-old man. They received mine-explosion injuries and shrapnel wounds and were urgently transported to medical facilities for necessary treatment. Investigators are currently clarifying the exact type of weapons used by the Russians during this attack. The shelling damaged private residences, multi-story buildings, cars, garages, and infrastructure in residential districts. Building facades suffered significant destruction, and the damage to civilian property has led to further devastation and disintegration of peaceful life for local residents. This tragic event once again confirms Russia’s ruthless strategy of warfare in Ukraine — a deliberate barrage of shelling aimed at destroying civilian infrastructure and intimidating the population. Ukrainian defenders and law enforcement officials are working to establish all circumstances of the incident, to hold those responsible accountable, and to ensure the safety of Donetsk residents. Ukraine calls on the international community to support efforts in combating aggression and restoring peace in the region.
