In Kherson region, a Russian drone fatally wounded two road service employees

Once again, a tragic event related to shelling by Russian occupiers has occurred in Kherson oblast. According to official reports, as a result of an indiscriminate attack carried out by a Russian drone, two road service workers were killed while they were performing repair work on one of the region’s routes. The incident took place near the village of Stiyke, located close to the hottest zone in Kherson oblast. According to Oleksandr Prokuodin, head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, the drone—likely armed—targeted the special equipment servicing the road infrastructure. As a result, two men aged 36 and 44 received combat injuries. Unfortunately, their wounds were incompatible with life, and military medics confirmed their deaths. The official expressed sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased, adding that this tragedy is very hard to endure, as it underscores the constant threat faced by residents of the region. The death of the road workers is just one of numerous tragedies that have occurred in the region over recent days. On April 16, the Kherson city administration reported a massive shelling by Russian aircraft and artillery. One person was killed, and nine others were wounded to various degrees, including a particularly vulnerable 15-year-old teenager. In addition to human casualties, occupiers destroyed or damaged a number of residential buildings: over 20 multi-story apartments burned down or collapsed, along with two private houses, an educational institution, and two supermarkets. The shelling caused panic among local residents, making many hide in shelters and delaying their daily routines. This latest incident further proves that the situation in southern Ukraine remains difficult and tense. The occupiers continue to conduct targeted military actions, altogether ignoring international norms and laws concerning humanitarian aspects of the war. The local population remains under constant threat, and city services and road contractors are forced to operate under extremely challenging conditions, risking their lives to restore infrastructure that is destroyed daily. The death of the road workers is yet another stark reminder of the cruelty of the military conflict and highlights the need to strengthen safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
