According to the latest data, law enforcement agencies in Ukraine detained a Russian citizen in Kyiv, who was assigned the role of so-called "sound engineer" at a popular Ukrainian radio station. In reality, he carried out tasks for Russian special services, notably the FSB. This was confirmed by reports from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), which officially announced the conduct of a special operation and the detention of a foreign agent in the city center. According to official information, the detainee, a 47-year-old Russian citizen, has been residing in Ukraine for more than ten years. He appeared in the position of an ordinary sound engineer at a popular radio station, but his true role was to gather intelligence for Moscow. Sources within the SBU and the Office of the General Prosecutor clarified that this man was recruited by Russian special services to perform secret missions related to preparing sabotage operations in Kyiv. The department's press service reports that the individual was involved in collecting information about military and administrative targets. Specifically, he deliberately photographed cars near government buildings and offices of Ukrainian defense forces, attempting to identify potential targets for possible terrorist acts. During breaks between broadcasts, he patrolled central streets in Kyiv, covertly photographing vehicles, including SUVs, which, according to his reconnaissance data, could belong to Ukrainian military personnel or security services. According to investigative findings, this foreigner was performing secret work on behalf of Russian intelligence agencies, collecting information about administrative buildings and military facilities in the capital. All obtained data and photographs with geolocation tags were transmitted to the enemy via one of the popular messengers. Importantly, these data were used by the Russians to plan and execute terrorist acts, including placing hidden explosives in vehicles that could be remotely activated or triggered. The investigation confirmed that this man was essentially a tool for conducting sabotage operations. It was found that he used a mobile phone to establish contacts with the FSB and transmitted the collected information. During searches at the scene of his detention, this mobile device was seized from his personal belongings. At the time of his arrest, the suspect was in pre-trial detention. He is charged with state treason, espionage, and activities related to terrorism. Under Ukrainian law, he faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property. Additionally, further examination of his criminal actions is underway to definitively determine the scope and objectives of his espionage activities. This case once again demonstrates the high level of systematic work by Ukrainian special services in counteracting foreign reconnaissance and measures to ensure national security. An investigation is ongoing, a court proceeding is being prepared, and the evidence already collected provides grounds to believe that there is a risk of new sabotage acts by Russian agents in Kyiv and beyond. The Ukrainian authorities call on citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies. They also urge all responsible and competent individuals to strengthen security and combat foreign espionage, as the fight for the integrity and security of our state continues daily — on the informational, political, and security fronts.
